Hard Drive Security

I bet you didn't know that the hard drive on your copier may contain every single document you copied, printed or scanned. Back in 2002 almost every copier sold in the United States uses 1 or more hard drives. Hard drives that are capable of storing all types of data. Almost all copiers in service today store an image of every copy, print, scan and fax job.

Some used copiers are resold through dealers in the U.S., however, many machines are loaded into cargo containers and shipped overseas with confidential data intact. Do you know where your information went?

Many machines require no hacking at all. Just press a button or two on the control panel and see. I can tell you from first hand experience that even after deleting the job the image is still there and really quite easy to retrieve. We have seen documents from medical offices with personal medical history, from accounting firms with social security numbers and tax returns as well as from schools with personal information about our children's age, height, weight, hair color, birthdays, social security numbers. Bank documents, police documents, mortgage companies, images of checks and personal emails that have been sent out. Needless to say, every thing you hoped to be held confidential is compromised. Everything a criminal needs to steal your identity, or more.
